About Bat-Fish Studio

Bat-Fish Studio was created in 2014 from the desire to build a more sustainable approach to fashion by creating a line of clothing, accessories and jewelry that are all produced using reclaimed, re-purposed, up-cycled materials and textiles.

Working from the concept of using waste as a resource, our goal is to give textiles and materials a new lease on life, keeping them out of the landfills and transforming the elements into wearable art.

“Creativity is making marvelous out of the discarded.”

Our Goal

Bat-Fish Studio’s goal is not only to produce & sell clothing & materials made from up-cycled, repurposed & reclaimed textiles & materials, but to educate & inspire others to look at material waste in a different light. Making a difference does not come in a neat package of one big "solution", but rather in the small actions of many that make the change. By tapping into more unconventional design aesthetics and embracing the idea that waste can really be a resource, it inspires people to get in touch with their own creativity, empowering them to feel they are truly making a difference.

By continuing to challenge the norms of industry standards, Bat-Fish Studio shows through example the result of innovative design and the use of unconventional materials, inspiring others to look at textiles in a different light from their initial purpose. The possibilities are only as limited as our imaginations!

Bat-Fish Studio has now introduced a line of workshops designed to show through example what innovative thinking can look like! Check out the workshop page for more details.

Working with materials that would otherwise be turned into the landfill.

In reaction to the landfill waste created by the fashion industry I was inspired to create a line of clothing & accessories that breakdown into the following categories.

The Fused Line: using a combination of existing reclaimed clothing & my original screened artwork, these garments are altered giving them a new lease on life, making them into unique one of a kind pieces.

Bat-Fish Originals: new garments & pieces or created from using vintage & reclaimed textile stock, tablecloths, curtains or dead-stock. These pieces are produced as limited editions to minimize waste.

Molly Lee Vintage: created as a homage to my late mother who was a fashion designer in the late ‘40 & early 50’s in London, England. These are true vintage pieces that have been repaired, cleaned & restored. They usually have not been altered.

Bat-Fish Whimsy: unique & interesting items all made from up-cycled, reclaimed, regenerated, re-purposed textiles & unconventional materials.

Tube*Bella: (Italian for Beautiful Tube!) this is a line of jewelry that is indeed made from the inner tubes of old bicycle tires & found objects. It includes earrings, pendants & the unique Green Goddess necklaces.

People are always asking me where I find my raw materials.

Some textiles are sourced from second hand or thrift stores, donations of dead stock fabrics, boxes of forgotten material in attics & basements. I also source off cut textiles from local retail suppliers, theatre costume & custom set designs, interior design houses, & private donations.

All materials come to the studio where they are reconstructed into a completely new items altogether, altered and reworked. Goods are received with the understanding that they will all be made into something wonderful.
